Project Pericles

Project Pericles®

Advocate. Empower. Inspire.

Project Pericles is a vibrant consortium of colleges and universities that promotes civic engagement within higher education. Building on the innovative vision of Eugene M. Lang, Project Pericles works in the classroom, on the campus, and in the community. Project Pericles is at the forefront of civic engagement and social responsibility in areas including faculty and course development, curricular coherence, and research into best practices.
We empower college students by giving them the tools they need to solve society's grand challenges:  Climate Change, Economic Justice, Education Access, Immigration, Mass Incarceration, Public Health, Race and Inequality, and Voter Engagement.

Periclean Programs

The Periclean Faculty Leadership (PFL) Program™

This program supports Periclean Faculty Leaders (PFLs) to develop and teach new, innovative courses across the humanities, STEM, and social sciences, with a community-initiated project addressing grand challenges. Students apply academic content to address real-world issues, and campuses develop meaningful partnerships with their local community.

Periclean Voting Modules

A free, online set of online curricular resources for faculty interested in incorporating deliberative dialogue about pressing civic issues and voter registration/education into their courses.

Debating for Democracy (D4D)™

A series of distinctive campus-based programs that represents the mission of Project Pericles in action. D4D promotes civic engagement and effective advocacy skills among Periclean students.

Building Transformative Texts in Civic Education

This project builds on our Periclean campuses’ commitments to liberal arts education, the humanities, and civic engagement. It includes two convenings (2021-2022) where Periclean campuses will discuss the relevance of “transformative texts”—texts that give students the analytical tools and historical awareness to interrogate themselves, culture, and society—in civic education and the curriculum.
